Electronic Repeat Dispensing (eRD)

Electronic Repeat Dispensing (eRD) is a method of ordering and dispensing prescriptions electronically. It means that patients who regularly get the same medicine do not need to request a prescription from the GP practice every time they need a repeat. Instead, the patient goes directly to the pharmacy to collect the next batch of their medication. 

Using eRD, prescribers can authorise up to 12 months’ worth of regular prescriptions, which are stored securely on the NHS spine and automatically downloaded to the patient's nominated community pharmacy at regular intervals set by the prescriber
